Paver preparation, old methods vs. new...

Pavers have traditionally been installed over a quarry process (QP) and sand base. While this provides a good surface for leveling, there are better alternatives for ensure proper drainage beneath your surface course.

The Anthony Group uses #9 stone (clean gravel from 3/4 down to 3/8" and, angular) on an open, graded base. Instead of sand, 1/4" screed gravel (also angular, allowing it to interlock and not shift) is utilized to provide better drainage and less frost heave.

The result is a much more durable base that will improve the life expectancy of your project. There is a slight increase in material cost over an older style sand base, but it's well worth the improved longevity.
